Salman Khan, born on 27 December 1965, is an Indian film actor, producer and television personality. He is popularly known as Bhaijaan among his fans and the media in India. Salman Khan has had many acting roles from being a child artist in the 1980s to an adult in the 2010s.


Early Life

Salman Khan was born on December 27, 1965, in Mumbai, India. His parents, Salim and Helen, were both actors in the Hindi film industry. Growing up, he often watched his father work and knew that he wanted to be an actor too. After graduating from high school, he attended college for a brief period of time before dropping out to pursue acting full-time. In 1985, he landed his first major role as Prem in the TV series Hum Paanch. The show became very popular with audiences throughout Asia and eventually led to more starring roles in films. In 1990, he married his childhood sweetheart, Somy Ali. They have two sons together: Suhail (born 1991) and Asad (born 1993). Following the success of Hum Paanch, Khan began acting in several other TV shows and movies. By 1996, he had become one of Bollywood's leading men. However, it wasn't until 2000 when his career really took off after appearing in blockbuster hits like Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard.

The following year, Khan found international fame by hosting a game show called Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? He continued hosting the game show until 2006 when it came to an end in many countries around the world including India. From 2009-10 onward, he made regular appearances on Saturday Night Live as a special guest co-host with Tina FeyFey. In 2011, he launched a talk show called Satyamev Jayate which focused on social issues affecting Indian society. It ran for 3 seasons, ending in 2013. 

Throughout his illustrious career spanning nearly 30 years, Khan has won numerous awards including 6 Filmfare Awards. Currently, he continues to act in films while also focusing much of his energy towards philanthropic efforts such as the charity Being Human which provides homes for orphans and homeless children around the world. Salman Khan's next big project will be Tubelight, a story about cross-border relations between Pakistan and India. This will be Khan's third film with director Kabir Khan, who directed the previous two Salman Khan blockbusters Ek Tha Tiger and Kabul Express. Salman also recently starred in 2016 release, Sultan which has been declared a blockbuster. Sultan tells the inspiring story of an unlikely hero who rises to defy his personal limitations and battle injustices faced by millions of people in his country. The movie went on to break records for being the highest grossing film of all time in India. Salman’s recent release, Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), crossed over 1 billion dollars at the box office worldwide. The film is an emotional and inspirational story of a man who sets out on a journey to reunite a six-year-old Pakistani girl with her family in India. Salman Khan has accomplished so much in his life, as an actor, as a producer, and now as a philanthropist.

In 2007, UNICEF terminated Khan’s contract when he refused to retract comments critical of the Pakistani government regarding how they handled relief efforts following 2005 Kashmir earthquake. For providing voice over in Gods Not Dead along with Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadda, Suraj Sharma etc., he was paid ₹2 crore (US$300000). He is known for his philanthropic activities. Khan's wealth was estimated by Forbes to be US$200 million in 2015. His net worth was estimated at US$260 million in 2017. 

In 2016, he released his autobiography titled The World Is Yours which became a bestseller in India and a number one non-fiction book on the New York Times Best Sellers list. 

In December 2018, Khan released his new film Bharat with a $45million budget.

Salman Khan is an Indian actor, producer, singer and television personality. He has appeared in more than 80 Hindi films. His latest project is the film Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, which was released on Eid al-Fitr 2020. 

Khan has also produced several films through his production company, Salman Khan Films, such as Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) and Sultan (2016). He has also starred in several hit television shows, such as 10 Ka Dum (2008) and Bigg Boss (2006-2007). 

In addition to his acting career, Khan is also a successful singer. He recorded songs for the movies Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Ram Jaane (1993), Baaghi 2 (2019) and other movies. He received two Filmfare Awards for singing for the songs Sawaal from Thugs of Hindostan and Chaand from Tiger Zinda Hai. Khan married actress Salma Khan in 2000 and they have three children together. 

He was honored with the Padma Shri by Government of India in 2004 for his contribution to Indian cinema and has been nominated five times for the National Award for Best Actor but did not win any award yet. As of 2019, he has won fourteen Filmfare Awards and four Producers Guild Film Awards. He began hosting 10 Ka Dum in 2008 and had started hosting Bigg Boss season 3 until 2010. The show is now hosted by Salman's brother, Arbaaz Khan. 

Salman also produces TV programs under the banner of 'S&K Productions'. They are 10% Tyre Show, Axe Murder Case, Aaj Ki Maseet. The debut film of this production house was Punjabi film Carry On Jatta (2012). The company's most recent release is Khuda Ke Liye Bhi Tumko Dildara Hai (2019). Khan was born on 27th December 1965, Mumbai. After graduating with a degree in commerce from St Xavier's College, Mumbai, Khan became interested in theater and took up a job at Maratha Mandir theatre. After working there for seven years, he joined FTII Pune where he completed his diploma course in acting in 1989 and went on to act in many plays including One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Master Builder at amateur theatre groups.
